Yankees show interest in Riske

The Yankees have "definitely reached out" to free agent right-hander David Riske, said his agent Nez Balelo. Riske, 31, was 1-4 with a 2.45 ERA in 69 2/3 innings with the Kansas City Royals in 2007.(source)
I've actually spoken with Nez Balelo, back when I did my first interview with Phil Hughes last winter. His firm, CAA Sports also represents Derek Jeter as well.

Anyway, I've always been a fan of Riske, and despite his high BABIP, I think he'd make a nice addition to the Yankees bullpen, especially if they resign Vizcaino. If the Yankees are able to sign Riske, Vizcaino and Ron Mahay, consider the bullpen upgraded. Especially with Farnworth on the block and Chris Britton ready to roll. Another perk of the Yankees signing Riske is that he would not be allowed to grow that awful goatee.

Britton will be ready to roll all right. He tries to keep himself in great rolling shape...nothing like being completely round to get you rolling.

Thank you bigguy-I appreciate it, and your hard work on the yes forums. I hope you enjoy anything, and if you ever want to read about something in particular, send me an email and I'd love to oblige.

Bullpen is a hot issue for the NYY this offseason but the more I think about this the more I come to the conclusion that we need to either sign Viz or a lefty specialist and the rest go with the farm. These middle relievers are all a crap shoot so might as well take a chance on bringing up the young kids. Its cheaper, the reward is greater and the downside is limited.

Bullpen has been a big issue for a while now for this team. It was addressed a few times but Torre has that nack of overworking pitches but then again there have been pitches that haven't worked out like Kyle Farnsworth, Paul Quantrill, Mike Myers, etc.

This team needs a solid setup man and if Joba doesn't go back into the rotation, I think we have our setup man. Vizcaino and Riske can help us if they are available and if we sign them quickly. There are people I felt the Yankees should've went after in the left-handed specialist role but there was one guy- Damaso Marte.
