Yankees sign French
According to Baseball America, the Yankees signed former University of Cincinnati standout Neal French to a minor league deal. French recently signed a deal with the Florence Freedom of the Independant League, but will opt to join the Yankees in order to further his professional career.
French, a power-hitting catcher/first baseman from Bay Village, Ohio, wrapped up his collegiate career in 2007 with a .343 average, 11 home runs and 65 runs batted in for a UC team that finished with a 28-28 overall mark...A 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed hitter, (he) went undrafted in June's MLB Draft of amateur players. Earlier in his career French was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 38th round in 2003, but decided not to sign and returned to college. (source)French also went to St. Ignatius high school. It's nice to see someone with a Jesuit Education advance in the baseball world. Best of luck to him.

I am from Ohio and my football team played St. Ignatius in the state semi finals a few years back. Haha. We got lit up...bad.
You thought sports were big at your high school. Ignatius is one of the biggest dynasties in high school football anywhere in the country. They produce pretty decent athletes.
Just an aside lol.
Interesting. I'm glad to hear that he comes from a strong athletic background.
Sorry you guys lost, hehe.
