Yanks pessimistic about signability of Sabathia

There have been rumblings for a few weeks now about where CC Sabathia is willing to pitch, but according to Tyler Kepner, the Yankees don't think that CC want to play in the Bronx.

Hank Steinbrenner has publicly promised to be aggressive in pursuing free agents this winter, and the crop will be thick. The Yankees will explore Sabathia, although they are pessimistic about his desire to play for them. (source)
Frankly, I usually hesitate to put faith in rumors about players and their comfort level in certain locations. We've all heard several reports about Sabathia willing to sacrifice a few million to pitch on the west coast. I still would not put a whole lot of stock in it. Money talks.

That being said, I'm not 100% sure shelling out a huge contract for Sabathia may be the right idea for the Yankees. As dominant as he's been, Sabathia has logged 253 innings this season, and depending on how far the Brewers go in the playoffs, he could end up with almost 275 IP on the year. Now, CC is a big guy, but big does not necessarily mean healthy. Anyone else nervous about his durability? I know he's had very few stints of the disabled list, but I would be concerned with his attitude toward his waistline after signing a huge deal.

There is one thing we all know: the Yankees need starting pitchers, and they will sign one of the better starters on the market. Expect Derek Lowe's name to pop up a lot.
