Morning Rumors: Andy, CC, Lowe, A.J.

With the Winter Meetings only a few days away expect the Hot Stove to start heating up again:

Newsday
reported that Andy Pettitte refused a one-year/$10 million contract offer from the Yankees, but it appears as though that was simply to work of his agent(s), the Hendricks Bros. Pettitte told reporters yesterday that he wants to return to the Yankees, and isn't really involved with contract negotiations right now. Brian Cashman also said that he'd like to keep Pettitte, so it appears as though a deal will get done eventually. Either way, $16 million is way to much and $10 million is not enough for a guy that can give you 200 solid innings and a mid-4 ERA. $12-13 million sounds about right.

According to Ken Davidoff, the Yankees are very confident that they will sign CC Sabathia, and are happy about the lack of competition for the left-hander. Also, the Yankees were comfortable with giving A.J. Burnett an option for a fifth year, but it seemsl like he wants a guarantee. Davidoff makes it seem like a deal with the Braves is imminent, but if they are willing to go five years for the oft-injured pitcher, I'm inclined to agree with him.

The New York Daily News is saying that the Giants may offer Sabathia a contract worth more than $100 million. However, the Giants are hoping he'll take a hometown discount to join the team. Supposedly CC's wife wants him to sign with San Fransisco as well.

The Boston Globe reports that Derek Lowe has received interest from at least two teams, one being the Phillies. Apparently the Yankees have yet to make an offer to him, but Ken Davidoff thinks that they will if they manage to sign CC Sabathia. I'm open to the idea of adding Lowe, but only if the Yankees also sign Sabathia.

I have no interest in signing Lowe, who wants to play for Boston. My preference is getting CC to sign, make a deal with Pettitte and trade for Peavy.

that would be one hell of a rotation.

I'm not super against Lowe, I'd much prefer the cheaper Garland-Andy-CC route.

the route i'd love: sign CC and do that meche/dejesus thing. CC-wang-meche-pettitte-joba looks attractive to me with an OF of nady, dejesus, and damon

Looks like Garland may stay with the Angels, which is fine with me.
