Yanks want Pettitte, not Sheets

If the season started tomorrow, Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain would make up the last two spots in the rotation, but the Yankees don't think Hughes is quite ready yet. So, the search for a fourth starter continues, and it appears as though the Yankees are still very interested in Andy Pettitte. According to the New York Post, the interest is mutual, and Andy really wants to rejoin the team. He initially rejected the one-year, $10 million offer several weeks ago, but both parties will likely meet at the middle. The Yankees need a durable starter for one year. He'll keep the spot warm for Phil Hughes while eating innings from the bottom of the rotation.

Meanwhile, Joel Sherman is reporting that the Yankees definitely do not want Ben Sheets. They are nervous about his lack of durability and back injury. He'll probably end up with a pitching starved team like the Rangers, Astros or Orioles - but if he can stay healthy he'll be one of the best pitchers in the game.
